Michelle's Graduation Party (Pig Roast)

Today was all about "Michelle" and rightfully so ! ! We celebrated Michelle's achievement from graduating from High School (Loy Norrix). The party was held at The Cooper's abode in Comstock and the weather started out a bit on the shaky side. Then old mother nature decided she wasn't gonna turn the graduation cake upside down and decided to throw a little sunshine our way. We had once again some great food which consisted of "Poor Porky's" execution by way of the gas grill. Let me tell you it was one of the best roasted pig's I have ever tasted. We had plenty of salads, and desert to go along with it.....not to mention the delicious "Baked Beans"! We played some Bocce Ball, and Ladder Golf in the back yard and enjoyed some wonderful fellowship. Overall it was a really great day. So Congratulations Michelle and Good Luck with your future endeavors.

Meijer's

Around 4,000 managers at Meijer stores were told that they will have to reapply for their jobs today.

The company says that they are looking at how they can realign roles and resources to better fit customer needs. They say that a vast majority of those effected will keep their jobs, but some positions could likely be cut.

The company will be meeting with managers throughout the next week to look at what changes will be made.

Leadership positions at all of Meijer's 189 stores could be effected. The stores are in five states.

Now do you want my take on the situation....... I predict in the near future (couple of years) we will no longer see Mejiers. I believe that Wal-Mart and Walgreens these type of stores are the wave of the future. Our economy stinks so bad in this nation that companies all over are trying every ditch effort to cut back and save where in the long and short of it they end up folding. And we only have ourselves to blame as our nation out sources almost all of our business to foreign countries because, we are cheap and no that other countries will do our work for about 1/8 of what we will do it for. We are giving our jobs away. I wish we would just bring all our work back home and stop out sourcing our Auto Industry, Merchandise, Food Products.....ect...ect. It makes me sick to see just about everything we own is made in China, Japan, Korea, Ta wain...ect...ect... I would just like to start seeing MADE IN THE USA. If we would bring our jobs back home and send people back to work then I think our economy would pick up. But, until we stop being greedy and money hungry and Lazy and wanting everything for NOTHING then things will never change. That is my 2 cents so take it for what it's worth.

Family Get Together

This Past Saturday the entire "VELD" family and then some met up in Bitely, Michigan for a nice family gathering and overnight camping. We had a great time meeting at Uncle David's cottage out in the area of wildlife were there are raccoons, bear, birds, frogs, mosquito's, and deer ticks to no end. We had a nice picnic of Hamburgers, and hot dogs, with enough other food to feed an army. There was baked beans, potato salad, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, fruit, and grilled veggies. There was enough desert to make you feel like you were living in sugar land. We played ladder golf a.k.a old geezer golf, and the kids played alot of games. Then there was a time of jumping in the creek and swimming with the frogs.... Although I didn't get in there. Finally night time was setting in and we all ordered some of the best Pizza I have ever ate from a Mom and Pop's Ice cream parlor called 4 corners. We finally called it a night and crawled into our tents for a few hours of shut eye. This was my wifes first time ever sleeping in a tent and sleeping on the ground. She finally can say she experienced a little bit of camping life. We got up the next morning and could honestly say it was nothing like sleeping in our queen size bed at home.....LOL We packed our gear and made our way back home. It was fun hanging out with family especially some of our family we don't see on a frequent basis. Thanks Uncle David for opening your home to the family for a very wonderful get together. Hopefully we can do it again soon.

Home Run Derby 2007

Tonight on ESPN is the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby 2007. I always look forward to this event to watch these Big League players hit the ball out of the park. This year they are at San Fransisco Giants Park where if you hit the ball just right it will land in the water (cove) just outside the park. There are hundreds of spectators in the water with kayaks, canoes, and other flotation devices waiting to catch a home run ball. Even ESPN spokesman Kenny Mayne is out there in his Kayak hoping to catch a ball. I personally am pulling for my Hometown Team Player from the Detroit Tigers Magglio Ordonez. Hopefully these guys will just put on a good show. Go American League!!!!

What Did You Do On The 4th of July?

Well the title asked the question! All you have to do is leave a comment. Today my family slept in since we didn't have to work. We woke up and lounged around for a bit. We then went out shopping since my wife had been saving her Birthday money for a rainy day..... Well today sort of fit that description. We also made a few purchases for the upcoming Vacation Bible School in Wisconsin. We were at Wal-Mart (9th St) and they evacuated everyone out of the building due to a gas leak........(No I didn't fart). So we made our way over to Meijer's to pick up a few groceries. We then came home and had Hamburgers on the grill with Mushrooms and Pepper Jack Cheese, Corn on the Cob, American Potato Salad, and Watermelon with a cold Diet Mt. Dew to wash it down. Now we are about to watch a movie and maybe look for some fireworks a bit later. Hope you all had a Great 4th of July........ GOD BLESS AMERICA LAND OF THE FREE ! ! ! !

4th Of July

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG, OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

Happy 4th of July.

Battle Creek Balloon / Air Show 2007

Last Saturday I spent from 10 am - 9pm at the Battle Creek Balloon and Airshow with Tamara and Bryce. We had a wonderful day soaking up the sun and watching the Blue Angels take the sky. We walked around and looked at the various booths and even let Bryce ride a few rides. After the Air-show we watched a few Balloons take the sky. They had trouble getting the Balloons in the air due the the wind conditions although the Best Balloon a person could ever set eyes on made it in the air just before the put all the other Balloons on the ground on hold. Of course that Balloon would be the Michigan Wolverine Balloon showed above. There were total of about 12 Balloons that actually made it to flight that night. Our family had a great and yet very inexpensive day together. We were definitely ready to lay our head to rest when we got home.

Sabbatical

I can officially say I am back to resume my daily blogging. I took what most would consider a Sabbatical Leave! You may ask what does the word Sabbatical mean? Well let me clue you in on the meaning.

Sab·bat·i·cal [suh-bat-i-kuhl]
any extended period of leave from one's customary work, esp. for rest, to acquire new skills or training, etc.

The past month I had some things I needed to get my priority straight with. Mostly I needed a rest from the computer and get back to the reality of life. It amazes me how quick our society is moving in the technological era and how we can become so consumed with it. I love blogging and I love sharing my thoughts and different things with each and everyone of you although, I realize there a much more important things such as Family. My family comes first before anything and and everything. I owe them every single minute I can give them. So I am gonna attempt to get back into the blogging realm with the realization that I might not be here every single day. Or maybe I will combine a couple different blogs into one day. I also have cut way back on my emails. I found that I was spending way too much time with my emails. It amazes me how quick we can be consumed with things........ So I am back and I look forward to hearing from each and everyone of you. Take care and God Bless.
