Michigan Defeats Cross State Rival Michigan State.

Well in all honesty I didn't anticipate Michigan to dominate over Michigan State tonight like they did. Senior guard Dion Harris scored 24 points to lead the U-M men's basketball team to a 67-56 victory over intrastate rival Michigan State Tuesday, Feb. 27, in Crisler Arena. Harris had the magic touch all evening, shooting 7-of-14 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw stripe. Senior center Courtney Sims and senior forward Brent Petway added 13 and seven points, respectively, for Michigan, which concludes the regular season Ohio State Saturday, March 3 in Ann Arbor.

Miracles do happen and I guess there is a slim chance to Michigan to beat Ohio St..... Like I said "slim chance" but, upsets do happen and anybody can beat anybody on any given day. Michigan needs a good showing against Ohio State and advance far in the Big Ten Tournament if not win it in order to make the NCAA Tournament of 64 teams (actually 65... think about it) Keep rooting for the Maize and Blue.... They just might surprise you.

Does Olympian Wrestler Rulon Gardner Have 9 Lives?

Rulon Gardner is one of my most favorite athletes in the sports world. In 2000, the heavyweight won an improbable gold medal in Sydney by beating Russian Alexander Karelin, who at the time had not lost a match in 13 years and had not surrendered a point in six years. At the next Olympiad in Athens, Gardner claimed a bronze and then left his shoes at the center of the mat and walked away from the sport retiring.

In his 35 years, Gardner has already had a toe removed because of frostbite (he got lost in the woods on a snowmobile), stabbed himself in the gut with an arrow (third grade show-and-tell project ... seriously) and survived a horrible motorcycle wreck. Now, he's cock-roached himself once again by living through a plane crash and swimming for an hour in frigid waters.

Yep, Gardner and two friends were flying a small plane in Utah when they lost control and hit the water at 150 miles per hour. They swam to shore and then spent the night without shelter or fire. The next day, a fishing boat rescued them.

And so the legend grows ...

ARE THE CHICAGO CUBS FOR REAL THIS YEAR?

This post is for my close friend Jayme who is about one of the most loyal cubbies fans I know. So the question lies at stake: ARE THE CHICAGO CUBS FOR REAL THIS YEAR?

Here is the scoop they have a few new additions to the line up this year: Coach Lou Piniella (who has a great coaching history and is the real deal), Pitching Ted Lilley (Left handed pitcher who is my book is a good addition), and Alfonso Soriano (I actually hope this can be home for him because, he is one of the best lead off hitters in the League.)

So with all the talent and depth the Cubs have this year will Piniella coach them into the play-offs or even the World Series. I actually think this could be their year but, the team has to have a willingness and determination to WIN. They have to go out there day in and day out and play their (A) game like it's nobody else's business. Although I am not a true Chicago Cubs Fan if I have to pick a team out of the National League Chicago Cubs would be my first choice. So my best wishes to the Cubs and I hope you start the regular season right as you play April 2nd @ Cincinnati Reds. GO CUBBIES ! !

Father/son Day ! !

Today Bryce and I spent the entire day together hanging out. We declared this an immediate Cooper Father/Son national Holiday. And we decided that we will have as many Holidays as we want...... well within reason...LOL.

The day started out with sleeping in a bit and then waking up and watching a movie called "FLUSHED AWAY" which to my surprise was actually a pretty good movie. While watching the movie we each had a delicious breakfast bar. After our movie we got dressed and headed out the door for our afternoon adventure. We kicked the day off right by eating lunch at Ci Ci's pizza and playing in the arcade room. Bryce did a great job of kicking my butt in air hockey 5-3 and we did a little road racing on the video games. After Ci Ci's Pizza we trotted around the mall and did some window shopping. We weren't looking for anything particular just seeing if they had any good sales. We actually didn't buy anything except a bottle of B-12 from GNC.

After the mall we went and saw Charlotte's Web which was an absolute great movie especially for the family. It is always great to see a nice clean movie with no profanity, violence, or sexual scenes of any nature. This movie should one day make a good classic movie for every family. The computer animation was top notch and it was very humorous. This will definitely be a must buy when it comes out on video. We then had our picture taken and etched out in one of those photo booths. This is just something that we will always have to reflect back on and have some good ole memories. I actually took a photo of our sketch for you all too see....sorry about the poor quality. At least you get a glimpse of what is actually looked like. Overall we had a wonderful day and I can't wait until the next time we get to do this again.

This was just a reminder too me that I never can have enough time with my son. I know life can be busy and all and I have so much that I could or should be doing. But, it is a must for me to put my life and hold and just spend time focusing on Bryce and his needs. I thank God for him each and everyday. He is such a joy and inspiration to me. And even though I think I can teach him all these different things as life goes on.... the reality is he actually teaches me more than I can ever imagine.... BRYCE YOUR POPPA LOVES YOU ! ! !

BADGER BLUES ! ! !

I think this picture above shows exactly how the Wisconsin Badgers are feeling right now. Wisconsin lost a thriller today and handed the Buckeyes the BIG TEN TITLE. The final score was 48-49 with the Buckeye's having the edge. Wisconsin lost Big Brian Butch for the entire second half after he sustained an elbow injury midway through the opening half. Wisconsin needs a big win against Michigan State this week in order to keep a good seed in the NCAA Tournament. Good Luck Badgers our family wishes you well.

Father/Son Sportsman Dinner !

Tonight I had the pleasure to hang out with my Dad and Brother Dallas at Northeastern Baptist Church 1st Annual Sportsman Dinner. The night started out with grabbing a glass of punch and checking out the different displays of Wild-life that have been caught and stuffed for show. I saw Bear, Wild Boar, Elk, Fish, Deer, and believe it a "antler Doe". Each table had pamphlets and pens and different type of information you could take home. Also there were samples of sausage, cheese, salmon, and jerky.

After checking out the displays and fellowshipping for a bit we were dismissed by tables to get our dinner from a buffet line. We had all different types of wild game dishes to choose from. Venison sloppy Joe's, Rabbit or Bear Stew, Goose, Duck, Fried Walleye, Duck, Pheasant, Caribou, Elk, Moose sausage, Northern Pike, Salmon and did I mention Bear ! !

After dinner Bill Jenkin III gave us a challenge from the Word of God using "REAL LIFE ADVENTURES." Bro. Jenkin was a very good speaker and could tell a good joke from time to time. I believe there was even one man that came forward for Salvation. "PRAISE GOD" After the speaker was done Pastor Coon drew names for door prizes... they had three different kind of prizes to choose from. Good = $25.00 and under gifts, Great = $25.00 - $100.00 gifts, and Excellent = $199.00 gifts. And would you know it my name was picked and I got to choose from the Excellent table and I won a new Rifle from Gander Mountain. I am still in shock because, I hardly ever win anything of great value!

Well overall I had a great time.... Food, Fellowship, Family, Friends, and great preaching what more could you ever ask for???

Let's Dance

Here is a nice picture of Maddison and her Grandpa Cooper. Grandpa took Maddison to a dance and spent some quality time together. These are memories that will last a life time. My advice to Maddison is to cherish every moment you can with Grandma and Grandpa because, there will come a day they will no longer be around. I remember some of the best times of my life was when I got to hang out with my Grandparents!

I remember being in the barn and watching Grandpa milking the cows, or out in the garden picking green beans and harvesting macaroni out of the garden. (That is my story and I am sticking to it.) I remember breakfast at Cooper's Cafe or Dinner at Plum Crazy and Russ'. I remember chasing Hot Air Balloons on the back roads of Cooper Township and Alamo just to watch them land. Yes, the memories can go on and on and on. So cherish every moment you have !

Remember Michigan's Fab Five???

Back in the 1990's Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Ray Jackson, Jimmy King & Co. won 56 games and reached the NCAA final in each of their two seasons together. Their talent was breathtaking; their trash-talking, baggy-shorts style endearing; their influence profound, even to this day.

They drew record television audiences, set fashion trends and touched off a licensing and merchandising boom that perhaps nudged all of college athletics along its current marketing-crazed course.

Then the university punished its men's basketball program after a federal investigation revealed that former booster Ed Martin had given a total of $616,000 to Chris Webber and three other ex-Michigan players.

They forfeited the victories, ordered the championship banners taken down and couldn't play in the post-season.

Now we are more than a decade later and where are those Fab Five Players now?

Chris Webber - Is playing his 13th season right now with the Detroit Pistons. Webber played for several team GS Warriors, WA Bullets, SAC Kings, PHI Sixers, and now the DET Pistons.

Jalen Rose - Is playing his 12th season right now for the Phoenix Suns. Rose too played for several teams DEN Nuggets, IND Pacers, CHI Bulls, TOR Raptors, NY Knicks, and now the PHO Suns.

Juwan Howard - Is playing his 12th season right now for the Houston Rockets. Once again Howard played for a few teams also.... WA Bullets, DAL Mavericks, DEN Nuggets, ORL Magics, and now for the HOU Rockets.

Jimmy King - King was short lived in the NBA starting out with the Toronto Raptors and playing 62 games before being traded to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Ronald "Popeye" Jones. King was then eventually wavied and instead signed with the Denver Nuggets on a 10 day contract and only played in 2 games. Kings also played in Europe for the CBA and was MVP in 98 for the
Quad City Thunder. He also played for the Bronze Medal USA TEAM in 98. King now is known to be working as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch.

Ray Jackson - Jackson was never drafted into nor played in the NBA. He was drafted in the (CBA) by the Grand Rapids Hoops, #35 in the 3rd round in 1995. While with the Hoops, he received the 1995-96 CBA Rookie of the Year Award. Jackson now runs a moving company and Rise Up Inc., a not-for-profit organization that assists children socially, educationally and on the basketball court.

So there you have it.... I did my homework and I hope we never forget the Fab Five. So what these kids got into a little trouble. What normal young Freshman doesn't get into some type of trouble..... at least they didn't go down doing drugs or caught up in a murder or rape story like the Duke Lacross players. These kids got caught taking money ($$$) that doesn't help them become better basketball player or enhance how they played back in the 1990's... Make no doubt about it they were the very best in college HISTORY and they were just FRESHMAN !

Happy Birthday Macy (Sticky)

Yesterday afternoon we went to my parents house for dinner and to celebrate Macy's 4th Birthday. We had meatloaf, baked potato, kidney bean salad, rolls and some beverage. Then Macy opened her gifts which consisted of everything she wanted. She got a pretty purple dress, undies, 1 purses, 2 necklaces, make-up, 1 hand bag, rings....ect..ect..... She was excited to say the least. I took a nap on the couch with the Fire Place heating the room. Then it was cake and ice-cream time with this delicious cake and peppermint candy ice-cream. This was a great afternoon. Hope you have a very good day today Macy and may all your wishes come true.

Hanging out with Family and Friends

This past Friday Night we had My parents, Maddison, Macy, and The McGrew's over for dinner. We fought of the cold arctic weather with some Hot and Delicious White Chili and Bread. It was a nice time to just sit and relax with Family and Friends and enjoy a good meal and fellowship. There was even enough to send some home with everyone and keep a dish for myself. Hopefully we can do this again sometime soon ! ! ! So be safe and stay warm ! ! !

THE LITTLE GRASS HUT

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for GOD to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.

Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood and long grass to protect himself from the elements, and to store his few possessions.

One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. "GOD, how could you do this to me?" he cried.

Early the next day he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island.

It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because GOD is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain, and suffering.

Remember that, the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground, it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of GOD.

Renewing My Mind

I have to admit that I borrowed this from Dr. Bob Griffin's email he sent me... I felt it was to good to pass up. I hope this will stop and make you think for a moment. Have a great weekend!

When God regenerated me, He saved my soul from hell. I await the day when
He saves this flesh and makes it eternally new. Meanwhile, I am told to
"renew" my mind by changing the "stinking thinking" of this world and
replace it with the positive truth of the Bible.

We say, "It's impossible."
GOD says, All things are possible. (Luke 18:27)
We say, "I'm too tired."
GOD says, I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28-30)
We say, "Nobody really loves me."
GOD says, I love you. (John 3:16 & John 13:34)
We say, "I can't go on."
GOD says, My grace is sufficient. (II Corinthians 12:9 & Psalm 91:15)
We say, "I can't figure things out."
GOD says, I will direct your steps. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
We say, "I can't do it."
GOD says, You can do all things. (Philippians 4:13)
We say, "I'm not able."
GOD says, I am able. (II Corinthians 9:8)
We say, "It's not worth it."
GOD says, It will be worth it. (Romans 8:28)
We say, "I can't forgive myself."
GOD says, I forgive you. (I John 1:9 & Romans 8:1)
We say, "I can't manage."
GOD says, I will supply all your needs. (Philippians 4:19)
We say, "I'm afraid."
GOD says, I have not given you a spirit of fear. (II Timothy 1:7)
We say, "I'm always worried and frustrated."
GOD says, Cast all your cares on Me. (I Peter 5:7)
We say, "I don't have enough faith."
GOD says, I've given everyone a measure of faith. (Romans 12:3)
We say, "I'm not smart enough."
GOD says, I give you wisdom. (I Corinthians 1:30)
We say, "I feel all alone."
GOD says, I will never leave you or forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5)

My "GREAT" idea ! !

This is what happens when your kids take away your driver's license.......

This photo was sent to me by my mother because, she wanted to let me know that this will be her if one of my "GREAT" ideas ever come true..... Now I am sure you are wondering what my "GREAT" idea is ? ? ? ?

Well I have a personal opinion that once you reach the age of 70 you need to have your Driver's License revoked and that you should become an automatic "NO CODE"!! This would make this world a much safer and easier living place to live.....LOL Just think it would keep all the old fuddy duddies from driving so ever slow on the highways and bi-ways of our roads. And if you should happen to stop breathing after the age of 70 then we would just let you go...... Hence the "NO CODE" rule. You have lived a good life and why go through all the trauma of trying to bring you back into this world.... I mean for crying out loud you are 70.... chances are slim to none that you are gonna make a complete and successful recovery. So why not just go out of this world knowing you made a run at it for 70 years and now it is time to move on.

Look at it like this.....we let animals go after they lived a long life....... we let our automobiles go after they have ran 100+ thousand miles.... so why not allow this simple idea to apply to us? The way I see it...... if I live to see 70 than I made it alot longer than I ever anticipated. I don't really foresee this world being around that long.... Once again... This is just my personal opinion ! ! And please by all means take this with all humor inside because, we all know my "GREAT" idea will never come to pass ! ! (Unless I become President someday ! ! )

Brett Favre going for his 17th NFL Season ! ! !

Ok.............so life in the cheese-land can't be all that bad since Brett Favre decided to come back for his 17th season with the Green Bay Packers. Yes you read this right.... just when everybody thought that last year would and should have been the end of Brett Favre's career as one of NFL's best QB, he decided to return to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field.

Brett was quoted saying: "I am so excited about coming back," and "We have a good nucleus of young players. We were 8-8 last year, and that's encouraging." Favre has started 257 consecutive games including the playoffs, an NFL record for quarterbacks. Favre broke Dan Marino's record for career completions (4,967) in 2006 and is closing in on Marino's marks for career touchdown passes (420) and yards passing (61,361).

My personal opinion is Brett should call it quits and retire. I think it is time for Green Bay to turn a new lease and put the pigskin in Aaron Rodgers hands. On the other hand I admire Brett for all he has done and I know he is capable of slinging that ball better than anybody. He has a tight spiral and a rifle shot when he pass the ball to his players.... Good Luck this next season to Brett Favre...... just go easy on my Detroit Lions ! ! !

Below Zero Temperature ! ! !

The last time I checked I live in Kalamazoo, MI.........."NOT"Northern Siberia ! ! The weather here has been below zero for a couple days now. I woke up this morning and as I was driving to work in my lovely Dodge Grand-Caravan Sport with 219,000+ miles the temp gage read -9 degrees. Then I tuned to a local radio station and they were reporting -15 degrees with a wind chill of -35 degrees. I am sorry to say folks but, that is absolutely freeeeeeeeeeeeezing ! ! I was amazed that my van even wanted to start. We had such an uneventful beginning to our winter with no sign of real snow until the later part of Jan. Now we have more snow than I ever cared for with a temperature that will make your pee freeze in mid-stream.......LOL So as I go to bed tonight I am gonna picture myself someplace warm....... Maybe Jamaica or Hawaii ! !

FACING the GIANTS

Today we a delicious meal with our friends the Mc Grews. After the meal we all sat down and watched this movie "Facing the Giants". This was a very good movie for any family to sit down and watch. I was beginning to wonder if our society would ever produce a good clean movie again with no worries of violence, language, or sex. This movie really was good and I would highly recommend it to anyone. It has an excellent plot and lots...lots of valuable lessons that each and every person could apply to his/her life. I grade this movie a straight (A). Below is the story line...... One thing that really stuck out to me was we need to give God our Praise in good times and bad. In all things we need to Praise God and thank him for all he has done and will do.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY.....AMEN ! !

THE STORY:

From the award-winning producers of FLYWHEEL comes a new, action-packed, family-friendly drama about a high school football coach who draws up a new game plan for his team … and himself.

In his six years of coaching, Grant Taylor has never had a winning season. Even the hope of a new season is squelched when the best player on his Shiloh Eagles decides to transfer schools. After losing their first three games of the season, the coach discovers a group of fathers are plotting to have him fired. Combined with pressures at home, Coach Taylor has lost hope in his battle against fear and failure.

However, an unexpected challenge helps him find a purpose bigger than just victories. Daring to trust God to do the impossible, Coach Taylor and the Eagles discover how faith plays out on the field … and off.

With God, all things are possible …

SUPERBOWL XLI ( 41 )

FLORIDA FORECAST ???

Tonight is a big night for two teams that pretty much live right next door to each other (Chicago, Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana) These teams will square off in Miami, FL tonight for a showdown to determine who is the Best of the Best.

Many are predicting the Chicago Bears to be the underdog because, their QB Rex Grossman is so unpredictable and they are relying on their Defense and Special Teams to win this game for them.

Then there is the Indianapolis Colts who are being led by Peyton Manning who is known for slinging that pig-skin down field and hitting key players like Dallas Clark(TE) and Marvin Harrison(WR) for big key plays.

I personally am pulling for the NFC Chicago Bears to win this game but, deep down inside I have my doubts. I say this because, if Indianapolis Colts can come back to beat Tom Brady and the Patriots after being down 21-3 then anything is possible for these Colts...... Maybe they have been playing reserve all season long to really pour it on during the SUPERBOWL.... Time will soon tell ! ! ! Good Luck to both teams and may the BEST TEAM WIN.

Saw-Gunner @ Sunset

Do you still remember the remember the Marine Alpha 1/24 that are serving over in Iraq. I have been getting some very detailed and informative emails from their commander Major Dan Whisnant ever since they were deployed. Major Whisnant is a personal friend of mine and a member of our church here in Kalamazoo, MI. We must never forget these men and pray for them and their family on a Daily basis. Major Dan sent this picture with these words attached in the email.........

I'm especially proud of LCpl Lucas Keith who is a SAW gunner and showed the insurgents that when you try and mess with Marines you're stay upon this earth can be very short.

KALAMAZOO XPLOSION

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME ARENA FOOTBALL??? This coming spring Kalamazoo is getting their very own arena league football team. Games will be played at Wings Stadium. I am very excited to see the Kalamazoo Xplosion kick off their inaugural season. The Xplosion will be coached by Bob Kubiak who has alot of reputation in the Southern Michigan area. So stayed tuned and get ready because, this looks to be a new venue of football for Southwest Michigan.

THE MARINE

OK.... so my wife and I rented and watched this movie tonight. Here I thought is was going to be a good movie and have a plot that shows the life of a Marine and what he may go through..... This was a very unrealistic movie with action/comedy mixed. To make things even worst it was produced and sponsored Vince McMahon from the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The movie had alot of action but, everything was so very unrealistic. I honestly would grade this movie a (D+)..... It is a good thing that we were home out of harm of the winterly blizzard and had nothing better to do or I would have seriously considered this an hour and half worth of pure wasted time.

Synopsis:The Marine ~

WWE Smackdown star and self-proclaimed "Doctor of Thuganomics" John Cena makes his explosive action feature debut as John Triton, an injured U.S. Marine who returns home from duty against his will, only to have his wife kidnapped by a ruthless criminal. Robert Patrick co-stars as the villainous Rome -- who is more than willing to kill if it means staying one step ahead of the law -- and Nip/Tuck star Kelly Carlson appears as the endangered object of the vengeful veteran's affections. With nothing left to lose and enough training to take down a small army, the hard-fighting Triton sets out to rescue his wife, and ensure that the psychotic Rome receives a painful taste of Semper Fi justice. Commercial veteran John Bonito takes the rein for his feature directorial debut.

On a cold Blizzard Day ! !

Believe it or not Tamara, Bryce and myself ventured out in the blizzard weather today. The worst part of driving was really just the blowing and freezing conditions. The snow was not really a factor if you ask me. We went to the Teacher's Center and bought a game called "quiddlers". Then my wife had an eye appointment at Pearle Vision in the Crossroads Mall and she bought new "Vogue" eye glasses and contacts. We then headed over to the new Texas Roadhouse for an early dinner. The food was sub-par and the service started out fast and gradually got slower and slower. We then stopped at Video Hits Plus and rented "Facing Giants" and "Marine" to watch tonight cuddled up in our cozy and warm home. My apologies for not posting on this site that past few days but...... Blogspot had an error on my account so I had to send them an email and have them correct the problem. Have a good weekend and stay safe and warm.
